Why this? Why now?
We’re Changing
Humanity worldwide is undergoing a tectonic shift. We’re in the midst of transforming into a ‘network society.’ We’re becoming connected less by proximity and more by common interest. Social Media brings us together now, from all corners and from all walks of life.
Forums, discussion groups, channels… these are the new ties that bind us.
Information for All
The Internet has leveled the playing field. No longer are we dependent on the traditional gatekeepers for the information we receive. We see this in the recent sharp decline in the influence of the Legacy Media, the corporate giants who for generations have shaped our opinions and our realities. The same is true for the leviathan pharmaceutical industry; its iron grip on the narrative of what’s best for our health is fast slipping away.
We increasingly depend on each other for our knowledge.
Cancer: The Scourge of Our Time
The cancer treatment sector is significant. The projected revenue for the American oncology drug market is expected to reach $111.5bn in 2025 (source: statista.com).
We must speak plainly amongst ourselves: there is little financial incentive for finding an end to this travesty, while there remains every incentive for prolonging it. It is an awful temptation. Whether the industry falls prey to it is not ours to say; we simply point out its existence. We choose to assume the better of our fellow man.
We also assert that the industry must not retain a monopoly on knowledge. Alternative treatments that work, and that may not necessarily be promoted by the industry, must be allowed to enter the public awareness and discussion.
IResist: A Better Home
It is to this end that the IResist project is borne. It provides a welcoming community where these ideas can thrive.
The single-column, monolithic discussion view found on modern forums simply won’t do for a topic so pressing, so important as this. It’s too difficult to navigate. We need a better way. IResist is that way.
